If it dies, critical functionality may not work anymore. \u00a0Luckily there are tools to help. I have found <a href=\"https:\/\/mmonit.com\/\">m\/monit<\/a> to be very useful for this.<\/p>\n<p>The setup is simple and instead of me repeating it here you can follow \u00a0excellent\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberciti.biz\/tips\/howto-monitor-and-restart-linux-unix-service.html\">this guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When things work add the following lines to the m\/monit configuration file (<em>\/etc\/monit\/monitrc<\/em>)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>check process vscpd with pidfile \/var\/run\/vscpd\/vscpd.pid<br \/>\nstart program = &#8220;\/etc\/init.d\/vscpd start&#8221;<br \/>\nstop program = &#8220;\/etc\/init.d\/vscpd stop&#8221;<br \/>\nif failed<br \/>\nhost demo.vscp.org<br \/>\nport 8080<br \/>\nprotocol http<br \/>\nrequest &#8220;\/vscp\/index.html&#8221;<br \/>\nthen restart<br \/>\nif 5 restarts within 5 cycles then timeout<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and you will be fully covered. \u00a0 m\/monit will detect when the daemon goes down and then restart it and, if you set up your mail, alert you in a mail that this has been done.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It can be very important for a setup that the VSCP daemon is running all the time.
